Hey, it’s Gavin,

Our offices are all a buzz about the F8 Developers Conference yesterday. People are leaping and running about like social media wingnuts. They may be drunk…on the social media knowledge. Kids today. Sheesh.

SNAP & FACE WAR:

Snapchat and FB are at each other, again. Snap unveiled it’s 3D AR feature yesterday (it’s v cool) then the Zuckster announced the same thing a few hours later at F8. Yawn.

JUMPWIRE R&D:

  1. Crossposting videos on FB is key now. Upload once. Have other pages share the same video. Keep the data in one place. Boost the post if it begins to take off. How does crossposting Facebook video content affect the algorithm? We are testing to find out.
  2. Pinterest is the place to sell all sorts of crap now. But how do you get people to hit that “view more” button? We have a few hypotheses we’re testing. More in later posts.

ITEMS OF INTEREST

OCULUS FOUNDER FIRED BEFORE F8:

There may have been a reason that Zuck led F8 with VR/AR announcements. He may have been trying to bury the recent firing of Trump supporter and Oculus creator Luckey Palmer.  Boy, would I like to know what REALLY happened. Good article here. Ah, to be a 21-year-old billionaire idiot.

MUSICAL.LY – BE ON IT NOW:

Marketers are scrambling to figure out how to market to the elusive Generation Z, and one of the keys might be Musical.ly. With 130 million registered users and 12 million videos uploaded per day, experts are predicting that getting in on the ground floor might pay off big time in the future.

SNAPCHAT MAKES MONEY:

With rumors of a self-serve ad buying platform on the horizon, advertisers are wondering if putting money into Snapchat will see a spend-worthy return. Check out the newest research on how users interact with Snapchat ads and decide for yourself.

THIS GUY:

Yann LeCun has been working on artificial intelligence and machine learning since the ‘90s, and now he’s taking Facebook’s neural networks to the next level. Take a few minutes to get to know the man shaping the future of AI.

WENDY’S RETWEET NUGGET:

Carter Wilkerson is about 16 million retweets short of getting free nuggets for life, but the marketing value he gave Wendy’s is priceless (Actually, it’s not priceless. 3 million RTs usually costs about $70,000. We checked.)

LUDDITES UNITE:

How do you know if someone doesn’t use social media? Don’t worry – they’ll tell you. Read this, and prepare yourself for the next time someone tells you they “just don’t care what people eat for lunch.” Oh, they care. We know they care. They care a lot. I mean, it’s lunch. IT’S A BIG FRICKING DEAL PEOPLE! Posts about your kids, on the other hand? Not so much.

CAN’T LOOK AWAY VIDEO – The Boston Marathon was on Monday. This epic video made the horror of the past go away for me. How do people cross a street during a marathon? Whoever came up with this system is a genius.
