Jumpwire Social Media Briefing – March 2, 2017

Hey, it’s Gavin. We have had feedback from some of you that you want more learnings (not a word). Fine. Learnings you shall have.

Things we learned this week:

  • If you want to see creative Snapchat content, Duncan from our team is doing that and you need to see it.
  • If you have a verified Instagram you should be adding URLs to stories. Drives traffic.
  • Jumpwire is moving to 2 step verification on Gmail and it’s easier than we thought.

1.PINTEREST: This is a fantastic report. Highly recommended read. Males are the fastest growing group on Pinterest, as almost 2/3 (64%) of active males have joined in the past year. 2016 Pinterest Media Consumption Study.

2.NIELSEN REPORT: (Note: you will have to give info to get this report) – Generation X (ages 35-49) spends the most time on social media: almost 7 hours per week versus Millennials, who come in second, spending just over 6 hours per week. 2016 Nielsen Social Media Report

3.INSTAGRAM: In 2016, Instagram brought in 7 percent of GQ’s total digital revenue and a whopping 70 percent of its social media revenue. GQ Places Major Bets on Instagram (and Wins) (Tyler)

4.SNAPCHAT: Teens don’t want Ma and Pa on the same platform. 45 to 54 year-olds now make up 6.4% of users. This is how Facebook became old. Adored by Teens, Snapchat Is Getting Popular With Their Parents

5.FACEBOOK: Cash grab? 45% of the revenue from video ads is going to Facebook (it’s normally 30% hmmm).  Why Facebook is overhauling video again (Dion)

6.VALUE of a LIKE: It turns out Facebook weighs reactions — love, haha, wow, sad and angry — over “likes” in determining the type of content to surface in your News Feed. You might want to rethink what you’re ‘liking’ on Facebook now

The Funny:  RISK LIFE FOR LIKE: 6 Instagram users who have risked their lives for likes (Katee)
